Research shows that in 1955, a breeding experiment took place which crossed a German shepherd with the Carpathian wolf. This breeding led to the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. It is suggested that the first litters were recorded in the countries of Austria, Hungary, and Slovenia, and the puppies were exported to several other countries. The experiment is said to have ended in 1965, and a breeding program was developed for the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. The breed was created to develop an animal with the abilities of a wolf, but the tameness of a dog.
