The history of the Irish setter breed is interesting. The original Irish setter breed, developed in the late 1700s, was red and white parti-colored. History suggests that from the late 1700s until approximately 1875, the red and white variety was the dominant color. Solid red setters were rare at the time, and it is believed that Americans were the ones to influence the development of the solid color variety.
