I just don't know if we're looking for the same thing here. Do you know what I mean? It's ... it's hard to put into words.

It's like there's this invisible barrier between me and you, some kind of unseen force that's keeping us apart in a way I can't really pin down. So hard sometimes.

Well, I don't know, maybe it is all in my head. Annie had a super uber BLAST and was really well behaved.

Some of these are all pixellated (sp?)...sorry!!!

Annie and her Dad taking a peek at the water.

She found the dog sized holes in the bridge we were on and insisted on sticking her face through to look! People around us were laughing and taking pictures.

So I decided to step back and take one myself...so cute!

"I'm having FUN Mom!!!!!"

Chillin with Daddy:

And since you never get to see the person behind the camera....here's a funny out-take. I swear, I was NOT choking her!!! Even though it really looks like it. :floor

And a good one of Ann and her Momma. Please don't mind my wind and water blown hair. :roll2:
Prin is our (two adult household) dog. She lives in a stable environment as the only four legged creature in the house. She's well taken care of, given attention, in great health, and spoiled in many every day aspects (toys, food, treats, attention, etc).

Prin is a two and a half year old (approx) lab rescue that we got 18 months ago. She was described by the rescue as "timid and shy, but loving and outgoing with people". $10,000.00 (and counting) in trainers, medications, behaviorists, etc have told us otherwise. Granted, we've carried on this fight for her longer than most people would have, but she's our baby. We're not ready or willing to give up on her.

When we first got her, she was shy and timid, but quickly over time we started seeing a different side of her. If anyone new walked through the door she was barking, lunging, and hiding all at the same time (picture a dog barking from behind the couch, lunging out, and then hiding again). We quickly invested in our first trainer. Bark Busters (HA).

After that, we started seeing a behavior specialist as recommended by our vet at that time. The specialist put her on meds, but they didn't work. We saw much of the same behaviors, and no real changes other than she slept more than she usually would and ate less. We tinkered with the meds, changing doses and prescriptions, and still nothing worked.

Our next avenue that was explored was the NILIF program. We worked really hard at that one. For a while it seemed to work. The two adults in the household were together on this, and no one slacked off on anything. Then one day, the dog stopped caring. It was as though she KNEW we wouldn't let her starve, and she'd get fed eventually. She didn't care whether she had our attention or not. She was just as happy to lay in the sun rays beating off the floor and sleep her day away as long as no one she didn't know crossed by.

We found a new trainer and worked with him for a while. His suggestion was choke collars/prong collars. Yeah. That worked out real well (insert heavy doses of sarcasm). How well you ask? Well she'll lunge at people with them on and they don't phase her. She'll literally choke herself half to death and still be going at it.

Next trainer to come up to bat suggested electronic collars. We tried that avenue for a bit, yet in all honesty, it only seemed to make her more aggressive, and she'd act out more. When we finally realized it was doing more damage than good, we ended that contract with the trainer and moved on.

And then came the trainer who immediatley said to put the dog to sleep when she refused to sit when he walked in the room to meet her for the first time. Instead of sitting, she backed into a corner and growled and growled and growled at him. She never moved from her corner, but I swear if she could of, she would have dug a hole through the wall to get away from him in the middle of her growling (yeah he kept walking nearer and nearer doing a "sit" in a loud obnoxious voice).

Along came the next, who was decent, nice, and kind... but in the end, Prin still has her issues...

So as you can see, we've worked with trainers, behaviorists, vets, medications, etc... and yet we're still having MAJOR issues.

Example: Walking her outside. She can spot someone 100ft away and try to break your arm lunging/growling/snapping at the person. A person not even close enough to talk without screaming, yet she's ready to do god knows what. God forbid you're walking down a path and someone comes from another direction catching you off guard. Hold on tight and pray to god that they step out of the way or allow you to step out of the way so they can get by without loosing a limb.

Speaking of loosing a limb. Yes, she has bitten. She has never drawn blood or broke skin, but she has bitten. The vet/behaviorist we consulted says that from the sounds of it, she was most likely just as surprised that she made contact as was everyone else. Most of her bites as what they call "air bites" where her teeth firmly and loudly meet each other as she lashes out. It's as though she's showing us that she knows she has teeth, she knows how to use them, but she just choose not to. God forbid she ever make contact and not let go... Let's be honest here, we all know that these dogs have strong jaws and large teeth...

Her rescue that she came from offered to take her back (as we're required to keep them updated on her progress per the adoption contract) knowing she's bitten despite them stating they won't take dogs with serious aggression issues yet still offering to rehome her, but seriously... there apparently was much more to the story other than timid and shy, and what would they tell new owners about her?

We feel that if they lied to us (our vet did xrays on her when doing a complete evaluation on her and noted old healed broken bones that we were never informed of and according to our vet the bones were a recently healed event yet the rescue claims they had her for three plus months before we got her) then by giving her back, it'd be a chance at them to lie to someone else, and put her in god knows what type of situation. No thanks. This rescue is a joke in my opinion.

We're at the point where we don't know which direction to go next. After consulting with three different vets/behaviorists recently, they've mentioned several aspects. Try new trainers (five and counting already, is there really something different that a new trainer could recommend at this point), more intensive medications (but at what quality of life would that leave her), or putting her down (I actually asked if they could put me down with her).

I'm not saying that their suggestions aren't worth looking into (except maybe that last one), but seriously... when is enough enough?

As I've said before, we aren't ready/willing or planning to give up the fight on this girl. We're willing to do whatever it takes. We'd love to hear advice, opinions, been there, done that situations, or anything that anyone thinks would be helpful. And... as much as it honestly pains me to say this, if you've had to make the choice to put your dog to sleep because of these issues, we'd love to hear your thoughts/opinions behind it, and what was the final line that made you make that decision.

We just... need help... For the love of our dog!

1. Begin with three sweeping strokes to calm your pet and assess her condition. Starting at the tip of her nose, apply gentle pressure as your hand makes a long, flowing stroke across her back and off the tip of the tail. Repeat twice more, slightly increasing the pressure each time. Then stroke each side of the face and the sides of the body; for balance, always work both sides evenly. Look for the pet to yawn, which indicates relaxation.

2.

Gathering skin into your palm, apply medium pressure with your thumbs as you knead the back of the neck. Continue down the back, working either side of the vertebrae while avoiding direct pressure on the spine. For small animals, knead with just your fingertips. Next, walk your thumbs down either side of the spine.

3.

Beginning at the belly, apply medium pressure as you sweep your fingers up along the pet’s rib cage. Repeat twice more. This will open the rib cage, improving breathing and digestion. Then go to the hip area and gently hold the leg to allow a stretch. Repeat on the other side.

4.

Close the session with another set of three sweeping strokes, decreasing the pressure each time.

He's definitely a water dog!! He would run through the water looking like a bunny. I would have put these in the Puppy pictures, since Major is technically still a puppy (8 months), but he's getting to be such a big boy, so Labrador Photo Gallerty it is!
If you’re like me, you get at least one a day…usually more. Well…don’t be so quick to delete those emails…take a few minutes to slow down and enjoy them. They’re good for your health!

Flocke lies there, limp in her keeper’s arms, a curled pink tongue sticking out of her mouth just under her small, black nose. The ridges of her snowy white coat break only to reveal shiny black eyes and tiny ear flaps.

If the sight of Germany’s newest celebrity polar bear made you melt, you are not alone. Like the now-grown-up Knut before her, Flocke is receiving international attention because she was rejected by her mother and, well, she’s just so dang cute.

It’s not the first time we’ve been captivated by a photo of a baby animal that’s just too darling not to share. If you don’t believe the human race is obsessed with cuteness, consider these numbers:

More than 50,000 people worldwide fell enough in love with month-old Flocke to participate in giving her her name, which means “snowflake” in German.

The San Diego Zoo reports that its real-time Giant Panda Research Station’s panda camera receives more than 6 million Internet page views per year and the hit count continues to grow.

CuteOverload.com (www.cuteoverload.com), the Internet’s clearinghouse for all things cute, gets more than 85,000 visits and 130,000 page views daily.

Here’s the good news: Our attraction to cuteness is not only universal but also appears to be largely heathy, say experts who study psychology and animal welfare.

[…]

Looking at pictures of cute animals online or through e-mail messages has immediate healthful affects, says James A. Serpell, professor of animal welfare at the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary school.

When people are absorbed in something, even if it is just a picture of an animal, their heart rates and blood pressure goes down during those moments of awe and wonder, he says. That affect, however, is transient, Serpell warns. Once we look away it goes away.

What lasts is a relationship with animals, mostly household pets. People with animal companions tend to have longer, healthier lives while those with no human or animal interaction are much more vulnerable to disease and illness, Serpell says.

Here’s the rest of the story.

With that in mind, here are a few cute pictures to enjoy!
