What should we do?

Hello everyone,

Sorry this is a bit lengthy, but I really need your help and advice. I am the father of two, 6yr and 9yr old boy and girl. My wife and kiddos really want a dog. I finally gave in and we, as a family, have been looking for weeks. Well we found a 6 month old black lab male puppy at a local animal shelter this past weekend. We took him out of his kennel, played with him a bit and found that he seemed really sweet. He took to my son quickly, allowed us to pet him, get our face into his face, played with a chew toy etc. No signs of any problems at all.

We decided to take him home and filled out the application. The shelter was supposed to have him neutered and call us by tomorrow to pick him up. In the meantime, we decided to name him "Bingo" and spent $300. on "puppy bling" (bed, crate, food, bowls, collar, leash, tag...etc) The shelter staff called us today and said there was an incident where they were trying to take another dog out of the same Kennel as Bingo and Bingo - Quote - "Tried to bite both kennel staff." The staff member said that he "Almost broke the skin" and seemed aggressive. The staff recommended that we not adopt him, however, said if we decide to, we must sign a waiver.

What do we do? I am suspicious of the staff, being that the dog "Tried to bite them" and "Almost broke the skin." etc. Doesn't sound like a vicious dog to me.....just a puppy. He seemed really sweet to us. But, I do have to think of my kids. What if he does turn vicious and bites my babies? What do you all think I should do; save this boy from certain death and adopt him anyway, or abort the whole thing.

Thanks!
Dan

He is skinny. I've *always* thought he was skinny but no one else did. Now everyone is commenting. :tapfoot: He has only gained 11lbs in 10 weeks and the last 3 weeks he's gained nothing. He acts fine, except lazy, but he's always been. *shrugs* I got fed up and had my dad do a full blood panel on him, I wanna be sure he's okay. I get the results back tomorrow, and I'm nervous.

Dog training supplies are available in your local supermarket and pet shops. Always choose dog training supply items that are humane and look safe, anything that restricts your dogs breathing or movement is not a good option for training.

Dog training supply stores sell everything for anti bark collars to dog appeasing pheromones! There is always something for every dog at one of these stores and many come highly recommended. If you can’t find anything in your local store the internet offers a vast range of dog training products and will ship to anywhere.

Dog appeasing pheromones are new on the market, they help your dog relax a little which is great because in todays world there are lots of disturbing noises and smells out there and with a dogs senses a lot more sensitive than ours they need that extra bit of comfort. There are three different ways to use dog appeasing pheromones and your local dog training supply store should have them. The three ways are a dog appeasing pheromones diffuser, which works by plugging it into a socket and letting it scent the room like an air freshener. The natural pheromones released will help soothe your dog especially when it comes to things like fireworks noises. Most dogs hate them and get anxious around them, and the diffuser will help them to stay relaxed. The pheromones also come in a spray which works the same way as the diffuser, the only difference is that you spray the area they will be entering about ten minutes before the enter and the effects should last around one hour to one and a half hours.

Your local dog training supply shop should have a lot of different products for you to try and take home with you, training your dog is serious business and the more help you can get the better. Always take dog training products seriously! They wouldnt be out there if they didnt work.

Before trying out a product always read the instructions thoroughly before hand and do not attempt to use the product if you think it will hurt your dog in any way. Learning is supposed to fun, for both you and your dog. So make it good by purchasing a few good toys along with your dog training supplies!

While technology is great, according to a new survey in Britain it can be dangerous to our pets health. The survey was done by Petplan using 3,000 animal owners.

It found that a number of pet owners are unwilling to take responsibility for an accident, saying the animal was the cause. Over a third blamed the pet for eating something it shouldn’t have, another third blamed their animals for getting hurt while jumping off furniture.

A number of strange incidents were revealed through the survey. There was a cat who singed her whiskers when sniffing a candle and a dog who swallowed a pair of knickers.

The survey also included owners of guinea pigs, rabbits, reptiles, birds and cats. All of whom are potentially at risk from 21st century toys.

Top 10 Gadgets Most Likely To Injure Pets

1. iPod (15 per cent)

2. Laptop (10.8 per cent)

3. Remote Control (10.8 per cent)

4. Plasma TV (10.8 per cent)

5. Wii (10 per cent)

6. DVD Player (10 per cent)

7. Playstation (8.3 per cent)

8. Nintendo DS (5.8 per cent)

9. Mobile Phone (5.8 per cent)

10. Karaoke Machine (5.8 per cent)

Interesting, but the article doesn’t say exactly how these items caused injury. It does make one wonder how a pet is injured by a karaoke machine, maybe the owner’s singing was the cause.

Like any other pet, dogs, if not properly cared for and maintained, can get diseases. Here are some parasites that cause dog diseases.

- Heartworm. Mosquito bites cause heartworm to exist in a dog and will reside in your pets heart and nearby blood vessels. A dog infected by heartworms looks dull and may even have a chronic cough. If possible, ask your veterinarian if your dog could be given a heartworm medication when it is the season of mosquitoes.

- Hookworm. Hookworms can be given by the mother dog to a puppy during the nursing period or even before birth. Hookworms cause dog anemia and appetite loss.

- Roundworm. The transmittal of roundworms is very much like how hookworms get transmitted in a dog. An infected dog usually has a potbelly. Roundworms cause pneumonia, diarrhea, dehydration, stunted growth, and vomiting.

- Tapeworm. A dog gets tapeworms if it swallows fleas that are larvae-laden. Much of the symptoms that are obvious rarely show, but in the dogs feces, you could see deposits of a rice-like appearance.

- Whipworm. A dog infected with whipworms may have diarrhea and other ailments like, stool mucus, and serious bowel inflammation. Extreme weight loss is also a symptom caused by whipworms.

- Fleas. Fleas, the commonest among external parasites, cause the dog to continuously scratch various parts of the body. This results to fur loss. Ask your veterinarian on a good flea-control program, since fleas could become resistant to some products over time.

- Lice. Lice can infect less common compared with fleas. Plus, they can be controlled easier.

- Ticks. Ticks can pose more serious problems than fleas because diseases like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, or Lyme disease, can be contracted with ticks. Tweezers can be used to remove ticks one by one. If you do not know how to remove ticks properly and carefully, ask your vet first. If you do know how, ticks should be placed in a can with soap and water.

Treating dog diseases

Some ways of treating dog diseases that your vet might use:

- Pills

- Liquid medicine

- Eye drops and ointment

- Ear drops and ointment

With proper care and prevention, your pet dog will be generally free and safe from various diseases. If you notice somethings wrong with your dog or he is acting strangly, immediately consult with your vet.

And yes I baked him a cake - a Strawberry cake - you know - standard two egg cake with fresh strawberries in the batter! It was a big hit with everyone! The construction is going well - pictures next blog. And now UPDATES!!

First - Cassie - one of the kelpies - look for her in agility and rallyo - she is one very smart cookie! By the way Wendy is a repeat TG Adopter!

Hi Yvette,

Just thought I would send some pictures of me and Logan my new Brother in my new house. I get to go with Mom and Dad and my other 4 Sisters and Logan of course to Merritt to guess what another home to call my own!!!! That’s right, I have two with the same parents of course. Mom says that I am so smart as I already bark at the door when I need to go outside! She doesn’t like it when I bite her pant legs and steal her slippers but Logan put me on that one! I have this huge orchard to play in and a little big sister named Sally Ann who protects me from the others if they make me squeak. Brie Marie was sure hard to win over but we play a lot now but she guards Mom’s head at night I think because I can’t get anywhere near it! I start puppy class next week whatever that is….no one in the family will tell me, do you know? I’ll write again to let you know how things are going….I hear a sound thats probably Mum I best go….

It’s a simple recipe I got from some Web site almost a decade ago. When I’m feeling particularly ambitious, I go all the way and make the matzoh balls, too. (The picture at right is just representative: In fact, I hate cooked carrots, so they never go into the pot.)

Today I wasn’t feeling that ambitious, so no matzoh balls. To start with, I had to finish two of our syndicated pet-care pages today so I can go out of town later this week. And then, I started the day early with a trip to the farmer’s market, where I got all kinds of really wonderful fresh food for me and for the animals.

The farmers market is best in the fall. The greens they have now are my favorites, because they remind me of my time living in the South. All winter long there you see people with their pick-up beds on the roadsides, full of fresh greens, cheap as can be. And they’re good for you! (Unless you cook them in lard, that is.)

Many of the greens I buy end up in my diet “second-hand,” since I give them to the chickens and they come back to me as fresh eggs. Today, I left the market with great big bunches — mustard, collard, even sweet potato greens — enough for the whole week for less than $5. And I got sweet potatoes, too, which the dogs and I eat a lot. (Favorite dog dinner: mashed sweet potatoes, steamed kale/dandelion greens and either canned salmon or fresh cottage cheese.) I also got some lovely winter squash!

Summer veggies, too, the last of the corn and tomatoes. I think I hurt myself getting it all back to the car, and I didn’t spend more than $30 for all.

Some of it went into the soup. Some of it went straight out to the chickens. Some of it to the dogs and the rest into the fridge. Tonight it was a bit of a mash-up for the dogs: Steamed, mashed sweet potatoes and yams, some leftover chicken and beef, steamed greens, barley and some blueberries, with fresh chicken broth to mix. Oh yeah, and some water-packed sardines, which they shared with the cats. Everyone ate well.

And me … I’m having some of that soup, in just a few minutes.

But not before I mention Maureen, one of those people I “know” through the Internet. She has a wonderful dog named Sam, who helped raise her children and is now approaching his 20th birthday. You read that right — 20! Maureen has fed him her own dog-food recipe all his life — Sam’s Healthwise Raw Food Cakes, she calls them — and although it’s just one dog and one dog’s life, you can’t argue with how well it has all worked out. Today on Twitter, she mentioned she was preparing her Sam recipe, and graciously again shared it with everyone. Check it out.

Dogs are considered as mans best friend. Deciding to own one whether it is big or small involves a lot of responsibility. It is not just about feeding it but includes other chores such as grooming, watching its health and diet, cleaning up after it and most importantly, giving it some tender loving care. There are many places one can get a dog such as a kennel or the pet store but if one wants to get a pure bred animal, one must seek a reputable breeder to get the best results.

Finding the right breeder for the dog depends on the breed that one selects. Professional breeders do not breed frequently and will only do so when a pair is found to be healthy and temperament that will insure the birth of also healthy offspring. Breeders will also breed only when a sufficient number of homes have been evaluated and deemed appropriate.

Given that there is no standard as to what a standard breeder is, one should do research by asking people and interviewing as many breeders as possible before making a decision. There are many categories of the type of breeders in the market and by knowing which one is the best and understanding the consequences; this will make all the difference of the type of offspring that will be produced.

The ideal breeder should have the pair of dogs tested for every possible disease as well as have all the information regarding the pairs ancestors and health records on file. Should a breeder find no problem in the history of the pair, one must still ask details to be sure. This is one sign that shows the breeder the interest of a potential owner of such a magnificent and smart animal. One can also ask the people who have be given offsprings in the past to check if there were any problems since the breeder maintains a close relationship with these dog owners.

Reputable breeders have certain requirements that one must have before qualifying as a potential dog owner. These are usually in the form of written contracts or guarantees with a spay or neuter requirement that limits the registration of the puppies. This is done both for the protection of the owner as well to control a possible overpopulation problem.

The person who wants a dog must have a secured backyard and attend certain classes such a puppy kindergarten to be familiar with the challenges one will face come the time the dog has been given.

The requirements needed by the breeder is not to delay the process of giving one a dog but to ensure that the person is aware of what will happen as a dog owner and the responsibilities that come with it as well as make sure that the puppies will have good homes. This is what makes responsible breeders different from others who are not since these people are not concerned about the health or welfare of the dogs but are just in it to earn money.

Once a person is able to find the ideal breeder, the waiting does not end there. Since the demand for the breeders dogs are well sought after due to the selective nature of the breeding practices, the newborn pups will still have to be raised with the breeder and will only be released when a number of pre-screened homes have been found. If one does the all the research, it is possible that one will qualify as part of that list.

One of the most critical factors in identifying a good breeder aside from the health and food given is the condition of the mother after birth and how well are the puppies taken cared of. The best way to do this is if the breeder is nearby so one can visit the place from time to time and monitor the condition of the puppies.

Another good quality of a responsible breeder is the voluntary assistance provided to the owners of the puppies. If the placement of the puppy did not work out as hoped with a certain owner, the breeder can require the person to return the puppy and provide it with a better home since the life of the puppies is the responsibility of the breeder throughout the dogs life.

Yes that is snow on Aardvark (she and her sister Lucy had their 17th birthday on October 11th) There was three inches on the ground this morning. We love building in snow!! I can imagine the finished product. The woodstove will be in it - more room in the common room for us and the dogs will LOVE the heat. There will be an overhang for storage of non-perishables, the adoption centre will be in the front of the building with its own outside door to the driveway not the dog yard. The dog yard door will be close to the red house door - two outside doors. There will be shelves and storage areas for the dogfood, blankets and linens. And beds for the dogs of course as well as chairs for humans too. It is 12 feet by 20 feet - the same size as the common room. It will be fantastic and long awaited!!

And this is Tuya - which means “daughter” in Taltan - what a cool name! She already has an enquiry from Haida Gwaii where 4 other Taltan Beardog mixes live. The “normal” color for them is usually black and white - like the Karelian beardogs. Although smaller than Karelians they look very much like them - she doesn’t have the “brush” tail. Thank you Jim and Barb for sending me links about them. It was very interesting reading.

You may think that dog training aids are out there for you to spend money and not actually reap any benefits from. That is not the case. Dog training aids are there to help you succeed in teaching your dog, this could be teaching him obedience, agility or any other type of teaching you want to do. There are many aids available but only a certain few will work with your dog and his temperament.

I find the best training aid to be treats, small pieces of human food chopped up and given to him when he has done something good has always worked wonders, that is unless your dog doesnt really have an interest in treats. This is a really cheap method of a training aid but if you want to blow some cash there are hundreds of options available for you.

For dog agility training aids that are available are e.g. anti bark collars. Many dogs have a problem when they do dog agility. They start barking constantly basically because of the hype involved. Anti bark collars do one of two things or sometimes both, they give a small electric charge when your dog barks and spray some water up into their face. People may think this is cruel but it is completely harmless. It just lets your dog know that barking is not acceptable. These collars are available at pet shops and on the internet and are not too expensive.

For dog obedience some dog training aids that are available are dog clickers, the newest craze out on the market which allows owners instead of associating sit with a word they use a click instead and reward with treats, no punishment allowed. Another aid available is a harness; this gets fitted around your dogs upper body so when you are teaching him to heel a slight tug on the harness pulls him back completely. The harness is a widely used obedience aid and is greatly used for bigger dogs such as German shepherds and Rottweilers.

There are also dog training aids available for around the home. These are simple and effective. Many people turn to dog training aids when nothing else has worked but they dont have to be the last thing you try, with aids so cheap these days there is no reason why you can’t invest in something that will make your dogs learning process a lot more exciting!

Puppies, new dogs that have no clue about housetraining, old dogs who forget they were ever housebroken can certainly make a huge mess of living places. It seems like the work never ends. And the thanklessness of the job is overwhelming.
The dogs do prefer a clean area to hang around in but they have no qualms about dirtying it either. Their idea of clean and my idea are not quite the same. As long as they have a clean corner to lie down in is all they ask for.
I think the foam pieces are messy – they think the foam and stuffie parts are great toys. They need toys to stimulate their little brains – to learn to think and reason out problems such as how to get their toy from under the bed?
But do they have to tear them apart to see how they work?

Add to it the heartbreak of brain injured puppies and it is no wonder I feel so overwhelmed today. Sunny and her planets/puppies were in desperate need. Their homelife was in shambles and the children used the puppies as furry toys with no supervision. They were somehow injured – two are brain damaged. Their little heads roll on wobbly necks. They can’t walk – they roll. Our vets think they could be deaf – they have no balance therefore they roll instead of walk. It is a wait and see time. A time of reflection and worry. Will the two even be adoptable? Are they suffering? I don’t think they are – they are nursing. They are trying to eat the puppy slurry with the others – they just need to be held over the dish. They are smaller than the others but that may not be a bad thing. Special needs small dogs have a pretty good chance at adoption better even than the healthy big black dog. It will just take more time and care. And a very very special person to adopt them – a much more stringent adoption process – the “I feel sorry for them factor” is not a good reason to adopt. Neither is the pity factor. They will need committed families who will go above and beyond for a handicapped puppy – the same as a handicapped child needs. Sometimes rescue hurts the soul.

3Penny has come back. She is a terrible chewer when left alone. She herds/chases horses so can’t go to work with her owner. She doesn’t bite the horses – just chases them in a large circle. But still not acceptable. On the plus side – she is very obedient, well behaved, dog and people social. She is great with toddlers and cats too. She is very clean – housebroken and a sleek and beautiful saluki. Somewhere there is a home for her – someone who understands her nature. Welcome back 3Penny – Issac and Trip are very happy to see you!

And another new arrival – this one was born near Whitehorse – they call her a Taltan Beardog mix! I thought Taltans were extinct but apparently the mixes are still around in remote reserves. Her owner moved to Dease Lake – she is a teacher and she works with Roy’s perfect match Matt. Matt told her TG is the place to take her dog if she needs a new home – thanks Matt. She had a brother sister pair and the two would chase other dogs – not to play with either. A couple of vet bills later and something had to be done. It was decided to split the two and she would send the female away and keep the male. She is spayed and vaccinated. She is lacking good doggie social skills – obviously she and her brother were taken away too soon. So far there has been no aggression – she likes my Sweetpea of all things!! They do look alike in stature! She will learn how to be a dog again with good social skills and a better attitude. Turtle Gardens welcomes Tuya.

Dog Kennel Training

There is great controversy about dog kennel training. Many believe that cages, kennels and crates are todays answer to quick convenient punishment. Although not as much controversy as there is about dog collars that choke a dog and give them electric shocks. Many dogs find comfort in their own place and some find quite strange places to call their own- the washing basket, the tumble drier, the bottom drawer…

When dog kennel training you must ensure that you do not put your dog in there when he has been bad as tempting as it may be. Also dogs cant be in the kennel for more than four hours due to the fact that they will need to stretch and need to the toilet. Many dogs start to feel uncomfortable after four hours and then they begin to get anxious. Sometimes the kennel isnt the godsend some think it is. A lot of people arent using kennels properly and therefore end up with more problems then they had started with.

You firstly need to identify the problem that you are using dog kennel training for, it is for housebreaking? Chewing? Making a mess? Once you have identified the problem you then need to utilize the cage to your advantage. All dogs should feel at home when they enter their cage. Food and water should always be available to them and comfortable bedding. For chewing problems chew toys should be available in the kennel and no where else and if he is caught chewing show him his chew toy instead dont shout at him. Housebreaking is a little bit harder. Most dogs will not do their business where they sleep. So once you notice your dog start to get uncomfortable in his kennel take him out and let him do his business, once he has praise him and continue to repeat. Dog kennel training needs a lot of attention and probably aimed at dogs that are very stubborn and hard to train.

You may think caging up a dog is cruel but in truth its not, what happened to us when we were small? We were left in our cot or playpen to play, that is what you are doing to your dog, nothing cruel or inhumane just practical. Kennels are a little bit expensive to buy so make sure that you want to follow dog training kennels methods to the end before purchasing one.

Dave had to start the TG Bus early to thaw out the windows for crying out loud. Where did Fall go? Enough whining - coffee revived my humour somewhat. I rounded up Panda and Shammy and way they all went - no escaping this morning!!

The afternoon saw the two pups go in for their check ups and vaccinations. The little pom/chi with the injured leg has broken toes so not much we can do about those. Dr Lois thought he was darn cute though! He was friendly, good natured and so very brave when he got his vaccinations. He never made a sound. He is still my little vest warmer - he really likes to ride around. He needs a name thta reflects his tough but handsome persona.

The other pup was the hound/sharpei mix female. She was a very good girl too. Now she would eb ideal for a family with children - she is sturdy and gentle. And very good natured. She needs a name too. Here she is with Bobby.

Panda and Shammy were quite groggy when they came back home. Panda weighs 12.8 pounds and appears to be what they said she was - 4 years old. Shammy on the other hand is much older; closer to 8 years at least. Why lie about her age? I would take her anyways - she was very close to a bullet. She will need a full dental - another expense we can ill afford but so very necessary for her health. She was pregnant again too - but no more for this little puppy mill survivor!

Dog breeders can be found anywhere. However, buying the best-looking puppy in the pet store does not necessarily guarantee that you bought a pet with a top breed.

What are the different types of breeders? Which of them provide the best dog breeds?

1) Look for reputable breeders. Well known breeders know specific details about their specialized breed. They examine genetic diseases that are known to have physical and emotional impact on that breed, perform veterinary maintenance and sustain breeding records.

A breeder of good reputation will provide you with both the good and bad points about the breed you prefer. They offer useful advice and assistance to new dog owners.

You can spot a reputable breeder by the way they maintain the dogs they personally own. They will let you observe the kind of care they give the dogs and allow you to see where the dogs live.

Most outstanding breeders are not just out to make money. They provide a written health guarantee with all the dogs they sell.

The majority of reputable dog breeders belong to local or national breed organizations and clubs.

2) Avoid backyard breeders, puppy mills and pet shops.

* Backyard Breeders. These people have limited education about the breed standards. Commonly, backyard breeders do not maintain a regular check-up on the dogs health and genetic makeup. Usually, these people breed to make money and that is their focus.

* Puppy Mills. This is a term commonly used to describe a business that produces large quantities of dogs. The majority of the puppies born and trained in puppy mills do not usually follow a regular veterinary care and appropriate feeding. Puppy mills do not sell directly to the public. They only allow sale to pet shops, brokers and dog auctions.

There is no generic breed testing conducted in puppy mills. The dogs born here have not been adequately socialized and trained. Most of the puppies are sold in large numbers at the age of 3 to 4 weeks and could later give the dogs emotional and health problems.

* Pet shops. Many pet shops grant guarantees. However, these guarantees last for only a year while majority of genetic diseases found in dogs materialize when the animal is over a year old. Most pet shops buy their dogs from puppy mills at a very young age for a cheap price. Young puppies that are not suitably socialized could cause behavior problems and poor health.

Finding the best dog breeder means your pet could live a longer life. Find a reputable breeder now and spare yourself from possible heartache.

UPDATE from Tillah's foster mom: Tillah is a sweet girl who is looking for an experienced, energetic person who is able to exercise her regularly. If you enjoy long walks, jogging or even biking, she's ready to go!

At home, Tillah does best without a lot of excitement or activity (no children). Calming interactions such as grooming or snuggling are her favorites, however training is another great choice. The presence of food will turn her into your star pupil! She walks beautifully on a leash, and has learned to stay put while her food is being prepared, even if I leave the room. We are now working on roll over. The more she learns, the closer she gets to you!

Hi -
My name is Tillah. I was born on the streets of Afghanistan -- where they don't keep dogs as pets. I was found by a very nice World Bank employee who took me in and raised me. Unfortunately, things weren't easy. I could not be walked because some of the local people would throw sticks and rocks at me and spit on my owner. Children threw things at me in my backyard. The male vet that spayed me chained me to a tree after my surgery and the men that cared for me when my person wasn't around beat me.

Last May, my person arranged to fly me here to a rescue. See, she was being relocated and knew I couldn't go with her, and to leave me behind meant a quick death for me. When I first arrived in the U.S., I was so surprised to see a dog on a leash! In fact, that was one of the first times I ever saw other dogs since I couldn't go out much before. As a result, I don't really understand how to interact with other dogs - I think they may try to hurt me so sometimes I try to get them first. But a trainer who evaluated me said she thought I would get over this and come to learn that other dogs are not dangerous.

Because of my fears, Homeward Trails had a difficult time finding a foster home for me - so many of them have other dogs already. Initially, in fact, there was no place for me to go so I spent some time in a boarding facility where I HATED it. I could hear the other dogs and they made me very nervous, thinking I was going to be hurt all the time. But since my foster mom took me home with her, I've been working really hard to remember that other dogs can be my friends and I have some in my neighborhood that I don't mind at all, although I'd rather not have one in the same house as me.
Unfortunately my foster mom can't keep me much longer, so I need to find a new foster home or, even better, a permanent home where I can settle in and know that I am finally safe and loved. I am housetrained and walk nicely on a leash. Please consider giving me the loving forever home that I so want and deserve!

xoxo-
Tillah

Tillah's adoption fee is $250, which covers the cost of her routine vet care and spaying. If you would like to fill out an adoption questionnaire for Tillah, please click here and e-mail the questionnaire to leahEstern@gmail.com.

Thank you for contacting Homeward Trails Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!

My Vet is booked, with surgeries, so I was hoping this week, is now the appointment is at the end of the month. I thought it was funny when I made the appointment, my Vet is mostly a one man show at his practice, it's a small office. (I actually use 3 Vets, but any anyway) But when I mentioned Cody, with the neuter, he remembered " the white Lab, well yellow". Good save, I'm thinking, don't make me sic the Lab forum on you. :brow:

With the neuter, which isn't to much of a big deal, DH planned for everyone to come to our house for the OSU game on Saturday, (he just told me) plus Monday ( a few days later) I planned a trip with our kids now adults to go to a State Park that is "pet friendly" for a few days in a cabin. So Shelby and Cody is going, not to mention my daughters on again, off again boyfriend to. My DD mentioned this a few days ago, she invited him. (I actually like the guy, but still...)

This is some of the stuff, but if I don't laugh about some of it, they would put me in the funny farm. :D p/s I'm still going to cloober DH for just now telling me about everyone coming over. Cody hasn't been around the family when there watching the game. In other words, "take cover". lol

I was hoping to get your input and ideas on how you arrange for the care of your dog when you are at work. I am a successful person professionally who works a normal 9 to 5 job. I have owned my lab now for over three years, and have recently seperated. I have found myself having a hard time making arrrangements for dog care. There is now a chance that my job may take me to Washington DC. The thought of me moving there for this job opportunity excites me because of the new doors it will open for me. However it also causes concern because I wonder how I will arrange for care of my dog. I am willing to fork out a few hundred dollars a month if needed for someone to watch the dog. I have also pondered installing a doggie door in my home so that he can let himself out during the day. However I think finding a home with a fenced in yard may be tough in DC. I was wondering how many of you out there are single and have this same challenge. I love my dog, and much like a child, I don't believe in just giving him away when things get tough. I hope that some of you can provide some insight. Thanks in advance! Jeff.
