Dogs may have difficulty eliminating feces when they are constipated. There are many causes for constipation including lack of water intake, poor intestinal function, blockage in the intestinal tract, tumors that are blocking the passage of stool and diet. The first step is a veterinary visit to determine if the dog is constipated. In some situations additional diagnostic tests such as radiographs and blood work may be needed.
