Today cooper started a new diet. Its kind of an experiment. For 6- 8 weeks he will be on a no beef diet. I will want to see if there is any change in his itching, scratching and licking behavior. For his kibble, I am using Wellness Core Ocean Formula. This is a grain free kibble.
Prior to starting this I have been going to every pet store in my area to search for treats such as the ones made by Merrick. I am not referring to biscuits. I am so disappointed at the lack of non beef treats available out there and the few ones out there are so costly. With all the dogs that have allergies, one would think that this would be a larger market. Why can't there be an equivalent pork bully stick or moo tubes, flossies, tendons, etc. Even all the rawhide is almost all beefhide. Who would have thought that Target would have the best selection of pork rawhide treats. There is also complete lack of non beef bones. Merrick makes a ham bone but it is cooked so for now I didn't get it. thats all i have seen. Previously someone suggested getting a pork shank bone. went to 4 meat shops in my area and not one has them. all shank bones are smoked and thats the only way they come. Turkey necks which are fast to eat are also pretty much impossible to get around here of late too. I haven't been able to find any in a very long time. I hope he is able to get used to his lack of longer lasting treats.
After 1 day there is no change but I know it will take many days if at all to see any difference. If this works it will all be worth it.
