With some recent fires that got a little too close for comfort (about 1 mile east of me) it got me thinking how to be better prepared.
I determined that the only "property" that would be a priority is my dogs. Then I started thinking if I had been at work, by the time I was notified there was an evacuation, it would be too late for me to get to them. Especially difficult is Tripper and Leroy who are crate trained and always there when I am not home. They would have no chance at all.......Lexi and Bosley? a small one as I have a 6 foot vinyl fence that would have to melt for them to escape.
As "luck" would have it, I was home when the fires broke out and did not have to evacuate as the wind was strongly blowing east, so my home was never threatened.
My BF, best friend, mom and sister all have keys to my home. Would it make sense to hide a key outside for the fire department? Has anyone experienced any type of evacuation? How do you prepare?
Thanks everyone - look forward to seeing the responses. I don't think you can be over prepared for this type of situation.
