Hello everyone,
Sorry this is a bit lengthy, but I really need your help and advice. I am the father of two, 6yr and 9yr old boy and girl. My wife and kiddos really want a dog. I finally gave in and we, as a family, have been looking for weeks. Well we found a 6 month old black lab male puppy at a local animal shelter this past weekend. We took him out of his kennel, played with him a bit and found that he seemed really sweet. He took to my son quickly, allowed us to pet him, get our face into his face, played with a chew toy etc. No signs of any problems at all.
We decided to take him home and filled out the application. The shelter was supposed to have him neutered and call us by tomorrow to pick him up. In the meantime, we decided to name him "Bingo" and spent $300. on "puppy bling" (bed, crate, food, bowls, collar, leash, tag...etc) The shelter staff called us today and said there was an incident where they were trying to take another dog out of the same Kennel as Bingo and Bingo - Quote - "Tried to bite both kennel staff." The staff member said that he "Almost broke the skin" and seemed aggressive. The staff recommended that we not adopt him, however, said if we decide to, we must sign a waiver.
What do we do? I am suspicious of the staff, being that the dog "Tried to bite them" and "Almost broke the skin." etc. Doesn't sound like a vicious dog to me.....just a puppy. He seemed really sweet to us. But, I do have to think of my kids. What if he does turn vicious and bites my babies? What do you all think I should do; save this boy from certain death and adopt him anyway, or abort the whole thing.
Thanks!
Dan
