UPDATE from Tillah's foster mom: Tillah is a sweet girl who is looking for an experienced, energetic person who is able to exercise her regularly. If you enjoy long walks, jogging or even biking, she's ready to go!

At home, Tillah does best without a lot of excitement or activity (no children). Calming interactions such as grooming or snuggling are her favorites, however training is another great choice. The presence of food will turn her into your star pupil! She walks beautifully on a leash, and has learned to stay put while her food is being prepared, even if I leave the room. We are now working on roll over. The more she learns, the closer she gets to you!

Hi -
My name is Tillah. I was born on the streets of Afghanistan -- where they don't keep dogs as pets. I was found by a very nice World Bank employee who took me in and raised me. Unfortunately, things weren't easy. I could not be walked because some of the local people would throw sticks and rocks at me and spit on my owner. Children threw things at me in my backyard. The male vet that spayed me chained me to a tree after my surgery and the men that cared for me when my person wasn't around beat me.

Last May, my person arranged to fly me here to a rescue. See, she was being relocated and knew I couldn't go with her, and to leave me behind meant a quick death for me. When I first arrived in the U.S., I was so surprised to see a dog on a leash! In fact, that was one of the first times I ever saw other dogs since I couldn't go out much before. As a result, I don't really understand how to interact with other dogs - I think they may try to hurt me so sometimes I try to get them first. But a trainer who evaluated me said she thought I would get over this and come to learn that other dogs are not dangerous.

Because of my fears, Homeward Trails had a difficult time finding a foster home for me - so many of them have other dogs already. Initially, in fact, there was no place for me to go so I spent some time in a boarding facility where I HATED it. I could hear the other dogs and they made me very nervous, thinking I was going to be hurt all the time. But since my foster mom took me home with her, I've been working really hard to remember that other dogs can be my friends and I have some in my neighborhood that I don't mind at all, although I'd rather not have one in the same house as me.
Unfortunately my foster mom can't keep me much longer, so I need to find a new foster home or, even better, a permanent home where I can settle in and know that I am finally safe and loved. I am housetrained and walk nicely on a leash. Please consider giving me the loving forever home that I so want and deserve!

xoxo-
Tillah

Tillah's adoption fee is $250, which covers the cost of her routine vet care and spaying. If you would like to fill out an adoption questionnaire for Tillah, please click here and e-mail the questionnaire to leahEstern@gmail.com.
